2022 Young Artists Competition
Every two years, during our Provincial Convention, ORMTA showcases some of the most talented student performers from across Ontario in this prestigious competition. Students of ORMTA members must first compete locally at the branch level. The local branch winner then qualifies to compete at their regional zone competition. Winners of each zone competition across Ontario then earn the right to advance to the provincial competition.
– Open to both Instrumentalists and Vocalists.
– Instrumentalists must not have reached their 24th birthday as of January 1, 2022.
– Singers must be between 20-32 years of age as of January 1, 2022.
– Instrumentalists: The programme must be at the Associate level or above, and must include a Canadian work. The overall programme must contain a minimum of 30 minutes of repertoire with a maximum of 45 minutes of stage time, including accompaniment if applicable. Stage time is defined as the time between the first note of the performance and when the final selection concludes. Competitors can select movements from a sonata. They do not necessarily need to perform the entire work.
– Singers: The programme must be at the Associate level or above. The overall programme must contain a minimum of 30 minutes of repertoire with a maximum of 45 minutes of stage time including accompaniment. Stage time is defined as the time between the first note of the performance and when the final selection concludes. The programme must include an art song, an aria (opera/oratorio), a contemporary work, and a Canadian composition. One selection must be sung in English. Singers must also perform in two or more other languages.
– In competition, competitors must perform selections of their own choice from the submitted programme for a maximum of 15 minutes of stage time. At the conclusion of the competitor’s performance of their own choice programme, the adjudicator(s), at their discretion, may request the competitor to perform one or more additional selection(s) from the submitted programme. The same own choice programme must be performed and adjudicated at all levels of the Competition (Branch, Zone, and Provincial).
