Branch Competition 2027

May 8th, 2027

We are pleased to announce our Branch Competition for May 2027 for the students of the Hamilton- Halton ORMTA Branch members only.

Date: Saturday, May 8th, 2027

Where: Port Nelson United Church

3132 South Drive

Burlington, ON L7N 1H7

Dear fellow colleagues,

We are introducing a new format for our annual local branch competition. It is designed for
all levels of students and we hope that every teacher will submit students in this, the 90th
anniversary year of ORMTA.

The format is as follows:

1. The competition will be held in early May, giving everyone a good chance to prepare.
Adjudications will be private, with only adjudicators present. All students will
receive a written adjudication. Students selected will perform at a special ticketed
recital in early June.

2. The competition will be divided into levels: level A-primary to level 3; level B-levels 4
to 6; level C-levels 7 to 9: level D- level 10 and above. Four or five students from
EACH level will be selected to perform at the special recital.

3. The competition will be open to all instruments and voice.

4. Adjudicators will be chosen from outside the branch to minimize any bias.

5. Teachers MUST select pieces that do not exceed 5 minutes. This keeps the final
recital at a pleasant length for the audience and also enables more students to have
a chance to perform. Teachers are encouraged to select pieces for their students
that are recital material.

We are hoping that you will find this new new format useful for your students. The recital
will showcase our best students from every level and allow them to perform publicly for a
large audience. It will also be a wonderful way to celebrate 90 years of music teaching I
Ontario.
